Jane stood on the narrow ledge of her office building and wondered how it had come to this. A few months ago suicide would have seemed laughable. Now, it seemed like the only way out. It had all started with her husband's death. Ben had been her rock, the anchor that stopped her world from hurtling wildly out of control. He had died in a car accident, although “accident” wasn't the word Jane wanted to use to describe it. It implied it was no one's fault. David was slightly confused. A moment ago he was sure he had been lying, quite horizontal, on the road outside his work; the car that had just hit him still ticking over above his head. Now he was sitting, quite vertical, in a fancy restaurant that he was sure he had never been in before, but recognised none the less. This was certainly confusing; however, what was more confusing was the presence of a slim, black dress clad and very pretty woman sitting opposite him.
