Jane stood on the narrow ledge of her office building and wondered how it had come to this. A few months ago suicide would have seemed laughable. Now, it seemed like the only way out. David was slightly confused. A moment ago he was sure he had been lying, quite horizontal, on the road outside his work; the car that had just hit him still ticking over above his head. Now he was sitting, quite vertical, in a fancy restaurant that he was sure he had never been in before, but recognised none the less. This was certainly confusing; however, what was more confusing was the presence of a slim, black dress clad and very pretty woman sitting opposite him.
